We are delighted to announce the appointment of Martin Foley as Arise CEO, effective from March 2023.
Martin joins us from the international maritime charity, Stella Maris, where he has served as CEO for almost 13 years. Through Martin’s dedication and outstanding collaboration with volunteers, chaplains, staff, trustees and supporters, Stella Maris has become a leading provider of welfare support for seafarers, fishers and their families worldwide.
Responding to exploitation in the maritime sector, Stella Maris is deeply involved in the global fight against slavery and human trafficking. Given such alignment with Arise’s mission, Martin’s appointment marks a promising new period of collaboration between our two organisations.
Martin succeeds our founding CEO Luke de Pulford, who moves to a new full-time role as Executive Director of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China. Luke will remain close to the anti-slavery cause as Arise Co-Founder and Adviser.
Arise Chair, Beatrix Brenninkmeijer, said:
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, it is a privilege to welcome Martin to Arise as our new CEO.
Martin has years of outstanding experience in the anti-slavery sector which, when combined with that of Arise, is set to propel us into our next phase – ever closer to our vision of a world without slavery. We have great trust in Martin. Joining us from the highly respected Stella Maris, Martin is well-placed to expand and deepen our support of frontline groups and religious sisters working to end slavery.
It is upon strong foundations that we, the Board, are excited to welcome the potential that Martin’s leadership brings. We thank Luke for his many years of service to Arise, and wish him all the best in his full-time role at the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China.”
Martin said:
“It is both an honour and tremendously exciting to be appointed as CEO of Arise. I look forward to working with the Arise staff, trustees and Arise’s exceptional global network of frontline groups, to end slavery and human trafficking in some of the worst affected areas in the world.”
The Board could not be prouder of Arise and its people — a global staff and expansive frontline network, with boundless compassion and razor focused dedication to this cause.
As Martin leads us into this new phase, we renew our commitment to a world without slavery, in which the dignity of every person is respected.
We look forward to introducing you to Martin in the months ahead.
