India Network: Human Rights Day

On the 10th of December, members of Arise's India network celebrated Human Rights Day, held on the anniversary of the UN General Assembly adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948.

Arise's India Coordinator, Sr Sherly Thomas, summarised the important festivities:

'Human Rights Day focuses on the fundamental rights and liberties to which all people worldwide are entitled, simply by virtue of their humanity. The theme for Human Rights Day this year is 'Dignity, Freedom, and Justice for All'. Most of the institutions and NGOs (of the India network) marked the day with rallies, speeches, and awareness campaigns.'

Our anti-slavery networks exist to protect the freedom and dignity of every individual. We encourage every person and organisation to consider the social impact of their actions, and help create a world free from exploitation. As we approach the Christmas holiday, we'd like to thank all of the groups we work with, in India and beyond, for their commitment to upholding the rights of every individual.

Thanks to Sr Sherly for the photographs of the celebration.
