Arise congratulates Nus Ghani for securing this critical report. We hope that the UK Government will adopt the recommendations supported by Arise, Anti-Slavery International and others to keep UK markets free from goods made with Uyghur slave labour.
We were pleased to see that a number of our recommendations made it into the report.
1) Arise recommended that the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 be extended to instances where companies fail to meet their anti-slavery reporting obligations
2) On the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and its lack of enforcement mechanism, Arise highlighted the enforcement clause of France's comparative Corporate Duty of Vigilance Law
3) Arise raised concerns about due diligence surrounding the BEIS Official Development Assistance (ODA) to China, and whether it is being channelled to the Xinjiang region
